The Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot (DGTT) Foundation has announced a new culinary skills training program at 120 E. Liberty Drive, Suite 100 in Wheaton. Café Liberty assists veterans who are unemployed or underemployed and looking to enter the culinary field. This program professionally trains participants for a lifetime career in the food service industry and/or serves as a bridge to an advanced culinary institution.

The DGTT is best known for its annual Turkey Trot in downtown Elmhurst which raises funds to help the hungry in DuPage County. “We will continue to help the hunger-fighting organizations with our Thanksgiving Day 5K. Café Liberty is an additional program, a tailor-made stepping stone that will, perhaps, change someone’s life forever. We are looking to open doors for gainful employment.”

The eleven week program is offered four times per year with between eight and ten participants in each class. Instructors and guest chefs from some of the area’s most elite restaurants assist. Executive Chef Billy Gordon developed the curriculum and serves as the primary Executive Chef and Chef Instructor at Café Liberty.
